Tauranga police are seeking witnesses to a roadside incident on Welcome Bay Road at the Awanui Place intersection.

The incident took place last Thursday July 28, at 3.30pm, and involved a car driver and a school student. The driver got out of his car, and police want to know what people saw, says Western Bay of Plenty road policing manager Senior Sergeant Ian Campion.

Anyone who saw anything is asked to call Ian on 577 4302.

Is SH2, between Katikati and Tauranga, a dangerous stretch of road?

Yes, there are too many cars on it and it’s not designed to handle that sort of traffic volume.
No, people just need to slow down and pay attention to their driving.
