This day in history and today's weather

Video and photos by Rosalie Liddle Crawford.

Today the weather forecast is for fine spells with a chance of a morning shower, and a westerly breeze.

It's a three-clothing layer day today with a high of 15 and an overnight low of 8 degrees. This day in NZ history in 1945 we remember VJ Day.

Japan's surrender following the detonation of atomic bombs over the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ended the Second World War.

More than 200,000 New Zealanders had served during six long years of war, and more than 11,500 had died.

Please check out the rest of our weather wrap video for more of this day in NZ history and what's on.

Have a great day!
