A Year 3 led student fire safety programme at Bethlehem College is coming to a close after about 450 students visited it this week.
All classes from the college's primary school visited the Year 3 classroom this week where five fire safety stations were set up by the 7-8 year olds.
See the Bethlehem College news item about a fire below. Pictured here are Brea Venimore, David Standing, Harrisson Burns, Lucas Lowe and Jamie Burrows.
Teacher Dave Hanna says the stations were designed to give the children a broad view and understanding of fire and fire safety. The first station examined the science of fire and taught the children about chemical reactions. The second station provided information about fire fighters and the New Zealand Fire Service, with the third a history lesson on famous fire disasters. The fourth station was about fire safety with a focus on smoke alarms and the fifth was a history of fire trucks.
Room C3 hosted a fire safety event this week.
To complete the fire safety programme, Dave had the students present a fictitious news item about a 'fire' that happened at Bethlehem College.
