Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a Tauranga man on Sunday night.

David Rawiri Kuka died from serious head injuries at a Wilrose Place address in Gate Pa.

Detective Inspector Lew Warner says the 52-year-old died at the same address where Lance Waite was injured on January 3 2018, before dying in hospital later that day.

Lew says emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.40pm on Sunday.

'The victim had suffered a serious injury to the head and was pronounced dead at 11.15pm.

'Police are working with Mr Kuka's family and ensuring support is provided.”

A post mortem is being carried out today and a scene examination at the address is also continuing.

'Police still want to speak to anyone who was in the Courtney Road, Wilrose Place, Fraser Street areas between 9pm and midnight on Sunday night.”
