Hunter's body to be moved from forest

Police have completed a scene examination in an area of Kaimai Range forest near Te Aroha where a hunter was shot and killed. 

The body of the hunter will be moved on today, Hamilton district command centre Senior Sergeant Mike Underwood says. 

The man was shot in an area of forest on Wairakau Rd on Monday.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 10.15am.

"During the day the body will be moved to the mortuary," Underwood said. 

"It will undergo a postmortem for the Coroner’s office." 

No charges have been laid yet in relation to the incident. 

The Mountain Safety Council is working with police to better understand the events leading up to the incident.
