UPDATED 3.46PM: Police are currently enroute to a collision between a logging truck and a car in Pukehina in the Bay of Plenty.

This crash occurred at 3.15pm.

The highway is closed and diversions are in place.

Diversions are in place as follows:

Eastbound traffic travelling on SH2 should use Pongakawa Station Road and Old Coach Road.

Westbound traffic should use Otamarakau Valley Road and Old Coach Road.

More information will be released when available and motorists are asked to avoid the area, says a police spokesperson.

EARLIER:

A truck and a car have collided on State Highway 2 near Pukehina.

A police media spokesperson has confirmed this has happened between Rogers Road and The Otamarakua Beach access point.

"The car is off the road after colliding on SH2 near Pukehina."

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says it looks serious.

"The truck is in the ditch and looks as if it's smoking.

"Fire, police and ambulance are currently at the scene."
