It seems the rain can't keep the Christmas fun away.

Downtown Tauranga have announced the Trustpower Christmas Party, in conjunction with CCS Disability Action Bay of Plenty ‘Celebrate Us' concert, will be held on the waterfront this Sunday.

Downtown Tauranga spokesperson Millie Newitt says the organisation has been working with CCS Disability to find a new date, following the cancellation of last Saturday's Trustpower Christmas Parade and the postponement of the ‘Celebrate Us' concert.

'With the number of Christmas events on in the city over the next three weeks leading into Christmas we had very few alternative days to consider and unfortunately a number of the registered parade participants could not reschedule to an alternative date.

'This means we will be unable to reschedule the parade for this year. We do have an exciting alternative to announce.”

To support the CCS Disability Action ‘Celebrate Us' concert that was already scheduled to take place on the waterfront, Downtown Tauranga will bring along a number of the floats and entertainment that was scheduled to appear in the parade to add to the atmosphere on the waterfront.

'Our main priority is to support the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the amazing line up of entertainment CCS Disability Action has planned for the big stage on the waterfront from 12-3pm.”

The day will include the ‘Celebrate Us' concert, a photo opportunity with Santa and lots of food and fun for the family.

'Join us this Sunday from 11am for the Trustpower Christmas Party and ‘Celebrate Us' concert on the waterfront.

'This is our way of acknowledging the passion and hard work people have put into their floats for the 2018 parade.”

The Trustpower Christmas Party and CCS Disability Action ‘Celebrate Us' concert on the Waterfront is a free event, on Sunday December 9 from 11am – 3pm.

The Christmas Carols on the Waterfront then starts at 5.30pm at Edgewater Fan on the Tauranga Waterfront.
