Otumoetai and Matua locals are starting early with the New Year's celebrations at a first time community event at Fergusson Park.

Site supervisor for Aegis Security at Fergusson Park Bevan Rakoia says the Fergusson Park New Year's event is aimed specifically for family.

'It's a family event with kids activities, music, plenty of food and lots of area for everyone to play around in," says Bevan.

"There will be firework happening at 9.30pm and a second fireworks at midnight. There is plenty of parking here, on a grassed area as well as side streets off Waratah Street.

"We also have mobility parking near the main toilet block and stage area.”

Entertainment including kids' rides, music, Frozen characters, yummy street food and even a visit from Batman in his Batmobile in their neighbourhood.

People are invited to bring a picnic or choose from the variety of food stalls on offer at the
event.
