Retallick joins Cane as Chiefs co-captains

Chiefs rugby players Sam Cane and Brodie Retallick are announced as co-captains for the 2019 Investec Super Rugby season.

Brodie Retallick and Sam Cane have been announced as co-captains of the Gallagher Chiefs for the 2019 season.

Head coach Colin Cooper believes that Brodie and Sam are well suited for the job, with plenty of experience between them.

'Sam and Brodie have been a part of the Chiefs team for a number of years now. They both bring great values, work ethic and leadership to our team.

'Brodie has earnt a huge amount of respect among the player and management group. With his consistent performance leadership, he is a natural fit to work with Sam.

'Like Brodie, Sam is very experienced and well respected by our players and management. We have no doubt together they will drive our team performance both on and off the field,” says Colin.

With 2019 being Brodies's first year with captaining honours, Sam has had plenty of experience, leading the side with Aaron Cruden and Charlie Ngatai since 2016.

Brodie's leadership and expertise in the game is second to none, playing almost 100 matches for the Chiefs since he made his debut in 2012.

'I am privileged to be able to co-captain alongside Sam. It is a huge honour to have the role and definitely a big responsibility but one I am really looking forward to,” says Brodie.

The Chiefs play their first pre-season match in Kaihoke on Saturday afternoon at 3pm against the Blues.
