One person has been arrested following a police operation that stretched from Tauranga to Hinuera.

Police located a car believed to be driven by an offender who had several warrants to arrest on Cameron Road in Tauranga at 2.40pm.

A police spokesperson says police tracked the driver to the Pyes Pa area and attempted to pull the vehicle over, where the driver fled.

'Police followed the vehicle through Oropi, back to Tauranga, then over the Kaimai Range and into the Matamata-Piako District.

'The AOS was deployed as a precaution.

'The vehicle was spiked at the intersection of State Highway 27 and SH29 at 3.53pm.

'The vehicle then crashed into a powerpole and the driver was taken into custody.”

The police spokesperson says charges are likely towards the driver of the vehicle.
