Update 11.45am: Two people have died following a single vehicle crash in Te Puke overnight.

Emergency services were called to the car vs garage crash on No 1 Road between Lomay Place and Roderick Lane shortly after 1.30am on Saturday morning.

A Sunlive reporter says that the vehicle had been travelling on a completely straight piece of road and hit a bank. From there it went airborne going straight through the roof of the garage causing extensive damage to two vehicles parked in the garage.

The garage roof completely collapsed as the vehicle continued going through the garage and out the other side where it finally came to rest.

'There are skid marks from about 200m away from where they lost control of the vehicle,” says the SunLive reporter.

Nearby neighbours report that they heard the van hit the garage and thought it was loud thunder.

The vehicle was removed from the scene about 6.30am, but the owner's two vehicles can't be moved until after insurance assessors have been there.

Two other people have moderate to minor injuries.

The road was reopened by 8am and the Serious Crash Unit was still at the scene at 11.30am completing an investigation.
