This day in history

In 1901 a ten-man Royal Commission reported unanimously that New Zealand should not become a state of the new Commonwealth of Australia. In 1959 the Auckland harbour bridge opened after four years of construction. In 1996, a totally New Zealand Royal Honours System was established with the institution of the New Zealand Order of Merit, which replaced the various British State Orders of Chivalry.

The Sunday Farmers Market is on at Mainstreet Mount Maunganui from 9am – 1pm. Come along for fresh fruit and veges, herbs, flowers, croissants, pasties, and artisan products.

The NZ Chamber Soloists will be performing at Baycourt X Space, with Lara Hall on violin, James Tennant on cello, Katherine Austin on piano and Dimitri Atanassov on violin. Click here for more information

Come and join in with a public roller disco session for all ages and abilities, featuring a limbo competition and cha cha slide dance, from 1pm – 3pm every Sunday at Skatescool Tauranga, 2 Roxanne Place, Poike. Entry only $11, $4 skate hire. No need to book, and no previous skate experience needed. There are friendly coaches on hand who are happy to help. Cafe, hot foot and drink available onsite. Spectators and under 5s are free.
