Four of the victims from Friday's attack at the Auckland supermarket are now in a stable condition.

Three remain in ICU at Auckland Hospital, but one of them is expected to be moved to a ward today, police have confirmed.

This will leave two in ICU in a stable condition.

Police Assistant Commissioner investigations Lauano Sue Schwalger says this is really positive news and police are continuing to work closely with the victims and their families to ensure they are well supported at this extremely difficult time.

A scene examination has now been completed at the Countdown and LynnMall shopping Centre.

Police will no longer be present, however, they will still be conducting regular patrols and the community can expect them to be highly visible in the area, says Schwalger.

Mall and supermarket management will decide on when they are in a position to reopen to the community, she says.

On Friday afternoon, police say Ahamed Aathill Mohamed Samsudeen stabbed seven people at Countdown LynnMall.

He was shot by police after approaching them with a knife and died at the scene.

Police have spoken with a number of witnesses as part of their investigation into the attack, says Schwalger.

This work is ongoing and further witnesses will also be spoken to over the coming days, she says.
