Motorists travelling between Tauranga and Katikati on State Highway 2 this weekend are advised to allow extra travel time.

SH2 will be closed between the Te Puna Rd and Clarke Rd intersections on both Saturday October 1 and Sunday October 2, between the hours of 5am and 4pm.

The closure is to allow for tree removal to take place.

"Allow extra time for a detour and expect delays,' says a Waka Kotahi NZTA spokesperson.

The road closure is located approximately one kilometre southwest of Te Puna.

For an alternative route, motorists are advised to take the detour as follows: Eastbound traffic turn left on Te Puna Rd, right on Te Puna Station Rd and right on Clarke Rd to rejoin SH2. Reverse for westbound traffic.
