There is a massive power outage across the Western Bay of Plenty.

PowerCo is reporting over 40,000 properties are without power.

A power outage in Tauranga that was reported at 9.41pm shows that 32013 properties are without power.

An earlier outage reported at 8.41pm is affecting an additional 10171 properties.

Site investigations for both incidents are underway.

SunLive readers are reporting that power is out in Otumoetai, Bellevue, Brookfield, Bethlehem, lower Kaimai range, Greerton, Gate Pa, Merivale, Pyes Pa, Omokoroa, Katikati, Aongatete, Whakamarama, Cameron Road and the surrounding avenues.

"Also Skinny mobile network seems be down too, mobile internet is working at snail's pace," says a SunLive reader.

Suburbs that do have power are Papamoa, Mount Maunganui, The Lakes, Oahuiti, Hairini and Welcome Bay.

Power is estimated to be restored by 1.45am on Friday October 14.
