Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that SH2 through Waimana Gorge will continue to remain closed overnight as slip clearance continues.

"Conditions are proving too treacherous to open the gorge tonight," says a Waka Kotahi spokesperson.

"Contractors will be monitoring the site over the weekend.

"Check the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner or updates."

Yesterday, a further slip came down in the gorge, resulting in more mud and debris on the road surface, slowing progress clearing the three existing slips, according to Waka Kotahi.

'The closure is between SH2/Station Road in Taneatua township and SH2/Wainui Road.

'Wainui Road is still open for detour."
