A boat that has hit rocks off Mauao near the Tauranga harbour entrance is now reported to be safely anchored.

"Police were notified that a boat had hit rocks off Mount Maunganui at about 12.55pm," says a police spokesperson.

"It is reported the boat is now anchored at a berth."
