A Tauranga teacher is due to appear in court next week facing assault charges after an incident in a school playground.

A police spokesperson confirms a 55-year-old woman has been charged with assaulting a child.

She is due to appear in Tauranga District Court on Monday, June 12, says police.

The school's Board of Trustees chair was approached for comment on the matter, but declined to comment as 'the matter is currently before the courts”.
