Armed police operation in Tauranga

UPDATE 11.45AM: An armed police operation in Tauranga is reported to have been resolved now.

Devonport Road has been closed between 12th and 13th aves while armed police dealt with a situation at a vacant property.

A police spokesperson says they were called to an address on Devonport Road, Tauranga at around 7am after reports of a man in possession of a weapon.

"As a precaution, armed police were in attendance and the area had been cordoned off."

Tauranga City Council reports the incident has now been resolved.

"Devonport Road will be re-opened very shortly."

A large armed police presence is being reported on Devonport Road in Tauranga.

A SunLive reader has emailed in to say there is a "large police presence on Devonport Road" near 13th Ave.

People are advised to avoid the area if possible.

A Tauranga City Council spokesperson says road closures are in place due to the operation.

"Due to an ongoing police incident Devonport Road is being closed between 12th Ave and 13th Ave.

"Due to the incident members of the public are asked to remain clear of the area."
