Police say they can now confirm one person has died following a serious crash on Whakamaru Road.

The crash was reported just before 1.30pm.

One person has serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

Diversions are in place and motorists should expect delays.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

Earlier 1.55pm: Emergency services are responding to reports of a serious crash on Whakamaru Road, Whakamaru.

"The crash was reported just before 1.30pm," says a police spokesperson.

"Initial indications suggest there are serious injuries."

Motorists are asked to expect delays.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
