Still waiting for adoption after 100 days

Sweet, friendly and playful are the words used to describe an adorable two-year-old dog, who is yet to find her forever home.

SPCA staff are surprised Kelly hasn’t been adopted, after 100 days in care.

Kelly came in through inspectors in June of 2023.

“All her puppies have long ago been adopted and she’s had no real interest,” says staff member Cristin Sim.

“She’s a beautiful dog that deserves her special family.”

“She is very sweet and a very loyal dog,” says staff member Gabriella Searle. “She loves to play and cuddle.”

Kelly is gentle and playful and her tail is constantly wagging.

She is very well-trained and understands both English and Maori.

“She responds well to food which is great for training and she’s a quick learner,” says Gabriella.

“She’s just a big friendly dog and would love training because when you’re training her she pays full attention and she thrives.”

Kelly is well-behaved and would be great around kids and elders.

Gabriella says Kelly would be a great family dog.

“She has been to the beach with some of our volunteers and she loved it. She likes walks and playing and parks, she’s got a lot of energy.”

Kelly doesn’t like hats and she isn’t good with cats, says Gabriella.

“She’s good with other dogs too,” says Gabriella, “She and the little dogs play together and for the bigger dogs she kind of ignores them and doesn’t pay attention.

“I reckon she would be a good guard dog,” says Gabriella, “She makes a good bark, she wouldn’t necessarily be a useful guard dog but she sounds big.”

Kelly is a beautiful, friendly happy dog patiently waiting for her special family.

Will that be you?

SPCA has half-price adoptions this weekend so now is the time.

It is sad that a beautiful dog like this will probably end up being put down, and I was tempted to take her, but she really needs a family and there are already dogs and cats enough in my neighbourhood. (I am friends with all of them... :-)) I wish Kelly (and the SPCA, who do an amazing job) all the very best.
