A catastrophic fire that ripped through a family home in Welcome Bay has left a family with nothing but the clothes on their back.

Fire and Emergency NZ arrived at the fire at 12.24pm and left at 6pm after extinguishing it.

The fire had spread down the back lawn of the family house, leaving burnt grass that was successfully snuffed out.

Three fire trucks from Greerton and Tauranga fire stations attended the house fire.

A fire safety officer has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.

Now, a Givealittle page has been set up to help raise money for the grieving family. The donations will go towards providing shelter, clothes, and basic necessities.

At the house, grandparents, children and in-laws watched as their years of memories went up in flame, said the post on the fundraising page.
