Update 1.21pm: One person has died following a water incident at Pilot Bay Beach this morning, Police have confirmed.

 A person was pulled from the water unresponsive, with enquiries, and a formal identification process is underway, a Police spokesperson said.

Update 9.37am: Hato Hone St John was notified of an incident near The Mall, Mount Maunganui, at 08.18am, according to a spokesperson.

Update 9.28am: Police have confirmed that an incident occurred at Pilot Bay Beach before 8.20am.

"Further information will be released when it becomes available," a Police spokesperson said.

Emergency services response responded to an incident at Pilot Bay this morning.

A SunLive reader who contacted the newsroom said around 12  emergency services people were standing around a white sheet.

“Two ambulances, one fire truck and two police cars were present,” the SunLive reader said.

The incident is believed to have occurred between Commons Avenue and Leinster Avenue.
