Operatic trio SOL3 MIO are announcing two special open air shows this coming Waitangi Weekend.
Award-winning artists Tami Neilson and Hollie Smith will join them for collaborative performances in Wellington’s Anderson Park on Saturday, February 4, and Tauranga’s Wharepai Domain on Monday, February 6 (Waitangi Day).
Celebrating traditional and contemporary waiata on stage, together SOL3 MIO, Tami Neilson and Hollie Smith will become a powerhouse of some of Aotearoa’s best loved musicians performing together for the first time on stage.
The award-winning Tami Neilson joins these shows hot off the back of her duet with Willie Nelson and the release of Kingmaker, her fifth studio album that received four Tui at this year’s Aotearoa Music Awards, including Te Kaipuoro Tuawhenua Toa/Best Country Artist and Te Kaipuoro Takitahi Toa/Best Solo Artist.
Rolling Stone couldn’t have described her better when they labelled Tami “a fire-breathing R&B belter on her own terms”.
Hollie Smith is one of the country’s most recognisable artists of the 21st century.
For more than 20 years, Hollie has been an acclaimed solo artist and accomplished collaborator, with her recent album ‘Coming in from the Dark’, featuring a guest performance by SOL3 MIO becoming her third album to land at #1 on the NZ charts.
Alongside this recent accomplishment, Hollie has scooped awards and accolades too numerous to list, and her voice has been part of many of the most iconic moments in our country’s music history.
Comprised of Samoan-descended brothers Pene and Amitai Pati - both tenors - and their baritone cousin Moses Mackay, SOL3 MIO fuse classical, opera, and pop music with a playful wit.
The trio completed a highly successful nationwide tour in October this year, playing to audiences across the country including a special orchestral show at Auckland’s Spark Arena.
Don’t miss these special one-off shows with Tami Neilson, Hollie Smith and SOL3 MIO this Waitangi Weekend.
