The Automobile Association will be brought into The Thames-Coromandel District Council's customer service centre in a move to keep the service in the region.
Operating out of the Thames' i-Site visitor information centre, the AA was in danger of being left homeless with the i-Site's planned relocation to the War Memorial Civic Centre on July 1.

Fairfax reports the AA's contract was set to be re-tendered by the NZ Transport Agency and must vacate its current premises by June 30.
It will now operate out of council's Thames office on Mackay St from July 1.
During council's recent full meeting, deputy chief executive Ben Day said they would take up the contract for one year, but it would operate at a loss of $5,282 for the first year.
The contract would include one full-time AA employee, with the agency covering training costs and supplying needed equipment and signage.
Existing staff will rotate through the AA desk and will require training. The one AA staff member will also be trained to deal with council's customer services tasks.
The Thames AA is the region's only driver-licensing service and had it been lost locals would have needed to travel to Hamilton or Tauranga to sit their licence.
