A man suffered burns in a shed fire that took around six hours to fight in Welcome Bay last night.

Three fire appliances and two water tankers were called to the wool shed fire on Waitao Road at around 10.10pm.

The wool shed in Welcome Bay was completely engulfed in flames overnight.

A Mount Maunganui Fire Station spokesperson says the shed was completely destroyed by the blaze.

'A gentleman was inside when the fire started and suffered some burns," they explained.

'We were there from about 10.30pm until about 4am.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
