The Thames-Coromandel District Council says several projects in the Coromandel-Colville ward have now been or are close to being completed.
These projects include the construction of the Long Bay footpath, work on the two Waikawau Bay Bridges and Stage 3 of the planned upgrade of the Coromandel Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The three stage upgrade project is to ensure the wastewater treatment plant complies with Resource Consent Conditions and other engineering process requirements.
Stage 3 of the project will see flood protection works upgrade, which includes reforming, re-sealing and re-configuring the ponds.
'Work on the Coromandel wastewater Treatment Plant is progressing with the ponds being upgraded,” says council. 'This will improve retention time of the wastewater and the quality of the wastewater once it has passed through the ponds.
'The next stage of the work is to place the liners in the ponds. This will be done in the next spell of good weather.”
Council has awarded the contract to HG Leach who will be utilising sub-contractors to complete the works. Veolia Water will still be required to operate the WWTP during this contract.

While further north, work on the No.3 and No4. Waikawau Bay Bridges is nearing completion, says council.
'The road [Waikawau bay Road] is now open with the No.3 bridge and a detour bridge open while work is being completed on the number 4 bridge,” says council. 'Please note there is a six tonne weight limit on the bridge for the next month.”
Council has been replacing both the No. 3 and No. 4 bridges to provide for overweight vehicles and mobile rock crushing equipment, without having to provide temporary bridge propping.
LONG BAY FOOTPATH

Last but not least, council has also recently completed a 167 metres section of footpath on Long Bay Road.
'The section that we have completed involved the construction of new concrete footpath starting at Sanfords and heading north along Long Bay Road.”
