Welcome to Saturday SunLive readers, did anyone catch the glorious sunrise this morning?

There's definitely plenty to do in and around Tauranga today with basketball, cupcakes, cute furry animals, movies and more – so get up, get at em' and enjoy your day.

Tauranga SPCA is hosting its second-ever Cupcake Day Fun Day at the Greerton animal shelter to raise funds for abandoned, abused and neglected animals within the region.

From 10.30am-2.30pm on August 22, there will be bouncy castles, a ferris wheel, face painting, sausage sizzles, an animal petting corner and cupcake stalls to sink your teeth into.

While over at ASB Arena in Mount Maunganui, Rotorua-born NBA basketball star Steven Adams will be sharing his skills, time and knowledge with aspiring young Bay of Plenty players from 8.30am to 2pm.

Then A free open-air screening of Pixar's Ratatouille will mark the opening of the Wharf Street Dining Precinct this weekend.

Downtown Tauranga is inviting families and film buffs to the new dining area for a screening of the award-winning film about a rat who doubles up as a chef from 6pm.
