The Thames Centennial Pool on Mackay Street has been closed today due to a malfunction with the centre's boiler unit.
The pool temperature is currently a very chilly 23 degrees and The Thames-Coromandel District Council says an engineer from Living Energy will be brought in to and rectify the problem.
'When the unit is fixed it will still take 24 hours to get anywhere near comfortable swimming temperature,” says council.
'At this stage we will look at opening the pool again on Wednesday, August 26, at 11am. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
While the pool is closed to the general public the following sessions will be cancelled for today:
- Learn to swim from 3.30pm-5pm – affected families will be offered a credit of $7.50 for next term's lessons.
- Preschool classes – affected families will be given a free swim pass to use whenever it suits them.
- Squad swimming from 4pm-6.30pm
