Steamers beat Counties Manukau

Bay of Plenty Steamers have recorded an impressive 37-26 win over premiere side Counties Manukau at Pukekohe today.

The visitors ran in five tries to Counties four to score what many pundits were claiming was in unlikely bonus point win.

Steamers ran in four tries to Counties one to lead at the break 27-5 with tries to Chase Tiatia, Shahn Eru, Te Ahu Toma and Te Rangi Fraser with Dan Hollinshead grabbing two conversions and a penalty. Counties lone try was scored by Sione Fifta.

Although Counties out-scored Bay of Plenty three tries to one in the second half and the Steamers had to play with only 14 players when Johan Bardoul for a professional foul. The home-side couldn't capitalise on the advantage due to the Steamers stout defence.

The Steamers next match is against Taranaki at Rotorua International Stadium on September 12, at 5.35pm.

In other news, Rotorua Boy's High School have been crowned the top 1st XV side after beating Scots College 35-27 in Rotorua this afternoon.

Although Rotorua lead 19-12 at the break, they were reduced to 13 men for the final few minutes leading 29-27. But were able to score right on full-time to give their side their side the victory.
