Bay Hopper timetables changing

Nearly all routes on the Tauranga's Bay Hopper bus network have changes to their timetables occurring from Sunday.

Bay of Plenty Regional Council public transport sub-committee chair Doug Owens says the need to adjust the timetables has come from extensive monitoring of the service.

'We carry out monitoring of the routes and have found that some routes have too much time in their timetables,” says Doug.

'This means that the bus drivers found they were getting to points along their routes and having to sit and wait for periods of time before they could leave again.”

He says the impact on bus travel times since the Harbour Link Project's completion is significant.

'It's great as it means we're seeing real benefits from the completed project and it means those using the bus network are getting to their destinations faster.

'While we don't like to make changes to the timetables too often, it's also given us the opportunity to improve the staggering of other services, and in some cases allowing us to provide a more frequent service.”
