A golden celebration for Thames

Groups or individuals wanting to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Thames Gold Fields will be available in November.

To celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary a one-off amount of $50,000 was allocated in the Thames-Coromandel District Council 2015-2025's Long Term Plan process.

Thames Community Coordinator Larissa Doherty says the criteria will be finalised by the Thames Community Board at its next meeting on November 2.

'The fund will be open to anyone wanting to commemorate or celebrate the anniversary,” she explains. 'It will close at the end of March, which allows plenty of time for projects, and or events, to be organised for the anniversary year 2017.”

The opening of the fund and criteria details will be announced at the opening night of the Women of Empire 1914-1918 exhibition on November 16.
