The All Blacks have created history by becoming back to back World Cup champions beating Australia 34-17 this morning.
It was a typically tight start to the match with both sides giving no quarter. The first points of the match came in the fifth minute after sustained pressure by the All Blacks. Dan Carter had an easy penalty kick after the Aussies were caught off-side 3-0.
The All Blacks were clinical right from the kick-off while the Aussies looked a little like a deer in the headlights but the Aussies were the next to score 11 minutes into the match, from a scrum penalty just outside the All Blacks 22m line with Brendan Foley making easy work of the penalty kick to level the score 3-3.
It was a tough battle for both sides and it showed with Kane Douglas coming off after injuring his knee and the All Blacks turned down two kickable chances to kick for goal it took until the 25th minute for the All Blacks to put points on the board through a Carter penalty to make it 6-3.
The Aussies loose forwards were dynamic at the breakdown often slowing down All Black play but it was the All Blacks who put three points on the scoreboard through the boot of Carter in the 35th minute to make it 9-3.
While many would be thinking about the break the All Blacks had other ideas putting some beautiful offload plays together to work their way up the field for Nehe Milner-Skudder to score in the right hand corner. Carter made easy work of the kick to make it 16-3 going into the break.
Sonny Bill Williams made an early start to the second half after Conrad Smith took a hit in the first half and didn't return after the break.
It was important for the Aussies to score after the break but it was only a minute into the match and Ma'a Nonu ran 40m through the centre of the ruck to score but Carter wasn't able to convert 21-3.
If Aussie were going to make a play for the cup they needed to put points on the board. They had their first real opportunity in the 50th minute with a lineout inside the All Blacks 22 but the men in black kept them out.
However, Ben Smith was given 10 minutes in the bin for an illegal tackle and the Aussies' David Pocock scored a try from a driving scrum which was converted by Bernard Foley to make 21-10.
With the All Blacks down to 14 men the Aussies applied the pressure and were able to score a nice converted try to Tevita Kuridrani 21-17.
With 15 minutes left to go in the match the All Blacks were back to a full complement and the game was in the balance both side fought hard to take the ascendency it came in the 69th minute with a 40m drop-goal to Carter to make it 24-17.
The last 10 minutes of the World Cup final and the All Blacks went to the bench but Carter had the chance to extend the lead with a 49m penalty kick which he made easy work of to make it 27-17.
But Australia were soon on attack from the kick-off after the All Blacks couldn't secure the ball. But it was a piece of individual brilliance from Ben Smith who kicked the ball ahead and Beauden Barrett to score a converted try to make it 34-17 and give the All Blacks the Rugby World Cup.

Whinging Aussie's

I can't believe to Australian media in their continued criticism of Referee Owen. They continually look for someone else to blame but do not accept they were not good enough on the day. This like any other team sports is a moving game and mistakes will be made on both sides. There were times when the Wallabies got the rub of the green just like the All Blacks but it is obvious that Australian media seem hell bent on finding excuses. To the All Blacks - well done 'Richitty' and your team of high quality players. To the Australian media - your news will be fish and chip wrappers tomorrow. Build a bridge and get over it.

Not that many Australians really care about rugby. It is not the national game nor is it ranked 2nd, 3rd or 4th. The rugby world cup is only world famous in NZ. Yawn.......zzzzzzz.....
