The New Zealand made supercar that bears the name of the country's only formula one world champion, and is grabbing international motoring media attention, is in Tauranga.
The Denny Hulme Supercar is on show at Farmers Auto Village, Mount Maunganui, as part of a New Zealand road trip.
See video below of Jock Freemantle talking about the Hulme supercar.
It is the only one in existence, although Hulme Supercar Ltd managing director Jock Freemantle says they are hoping to have two more built in the near future and for the business to take orders for the car in April 2011.
The car, which debuted at the 2009 A1GP event in Taupo, is quick, with a top speed of about 340km/h, although Jock is coy about how fast it is from 0-100km/h.
It has 600hp with torque at the wheel of 610 Newton metres.
The car is attracting significant international attention. Most recently it filled a 10 page feature in the Chinese magazine, 'Automobile'.
"It's the most exposure a New Zealand product has had in a Chinese magazine," says Jock.
It also recently featured on the front page of the Sunday Times in England, with the headline, 'Meaner than the All Blacks'.
The team has taken the car around the world with stops including Shanghai, Saudi Arabia and England.
The business is looking for investors to help them build two new models and iron out some bugs and Jock is determined to keep the investment New Zealand made.
He says this stance has meant he has turned away offshore investors met during the car's travels.
Jock is encouraging people to invest amounts of $1000-10,000.
