Boord Park upset: first time win

Rotorua Boys' High School provided a major upset in the BOP Cup on Saturday when they comfortably chased down over 200 runs against iTCo Rotorua Central.

Batting first, Central was dismissed for 216 at Boord Park, with Cameron Payne leading the way with his side's top score of 61.

A four-wicket bag to Koha Newton, and 3/17 returned by Cody Fell, did the damage for the Rotorua students with the ball.

While in the first three rounds of the BOP Cup the Rotorua Boys' batsmen have run up the white flag of defeat at the batting crease – a revitalised attack took the students to victory with four wickets in hand.

Two Bay of Plenty age group representatives, Richie Megaw (75no) and Chanse Perham (62no) anchored their side's innings, then took them through to Rotorua Boys' first win in the BOP Cup.

The much anticipated match-up at Blake Park, between archrivals Platinum Pacific Reclad Mount Maunganui and Element IMF Cadets didn't disappoint, going down to the penultimate over.

Cadets made a scintillating start with Joe Carter, who was playing his first match in Cadets colours, smashed 88 runs.

While fellow opener Ben Christensen posted 37, the Cadets' wheels fell off with the visitors removed for 169.

Dale Swan and Bharat Popli did the damage with the ball for the home side, taking three wickets apiece.

However, the Cadets bowlers made Mount Maunganui work hard for victory.

At 86/5 at the 30 over mark the match was on the line, before skipper Daniel Hill (41) and Dale Swan (23no) knuckled down – with the Mount grabbing a two-wicket victory.

Ultimate Motor Group Te Puke, led by Tai Bridgeman-Raison, who carried his bat with an unbeaten 128, easily defeated BOP Indians. Te Puke posted 239/6 with Bridgeman-Raison's innings standing out like a beacon.

The Te Puke bowlers made quick work of the Rotorua side's batting attack, having their opponents all out for just 67.

Te Puke all rounder Mitch McCann returned the remarkable figures of four wickets at a cost of just three runs, with Seth Adamson and Pari Singh grabbing two wickets apiece.

Dawson Insurance Eastern Pirates had little trouble with East Bay United. After being dismissed for 281, Eastern Pirates bowled the Eastern Bay side out for 117 to post an easy win.

The match-up between Eves Realty Greerton and Tauranga Boys' College was another match on a knife edge in the closing overs before Greerton bowled Tauranga Boys' out, six runs short of their target.
