The swell that had plagued the first two days dropped away, leaving a solid 1m pulse that still tested competitors but allowed organisers to get through a big schedule of racing.

Perennial favourites Papamoa overcame a disappointing display in their usually dominant beach relay ranks by picking up wins in the under-12 and under-14 boys board relay events, while Red Beach didn't claim any gold but were rewarded for superb consistency throughout the day.

They picked up placings in every beach relay - second in the under-11s, under-12s and under-13s and third in the under-14s, while Jade Tuilaepa was third in the under-11 girls run-swim-run.

Tuilaepa also helped Red Beach to third in the under-12 girls board relay with teammates Bria Downey and Emma Hildesley, while Levon Hutchinson, Dion Mittendorff and Sam Readman were second in the under-12 boys. Mitchell Grant, Jake Morgan-Kemp and Izaak Schieb were also third in the under-14 board relay.

Home club Mount Maunganui, boosted by a dominant under-12 run-swim-run win by Hamish Miller, are third on 28 points, with Miller also helping his club capture the under-12 beach relay with Devon Bowdler, Emily Johnston and George Williams.

Omanu successfully defended their grueling 2km beach relay title to sit fourth on 18 points, just ahead of Midway (16) and Waikanae (15).

Whangamata won the under-11 beach relay, East End won the under-13 title and Ocean Beach Kiwi stormed home in the under-14 race.

New Plymouth Old Boys' Zac Reid won the under-11 run-swim-run and Lyall Bay's Zaniah Bettany and Tori Watt took out the under 11 and under-12 races respectively.

Whakatane's Caitlin Burt-Poloai, Ngahuia Muru and Amber Vercoe won the under-12 girls board relay and Wainui won the under-14 girls relay, with team members Ashley Donaldson, Aberdeen Falwasser-Logan and Jasmine Smith.
