Nine new aircraft homes taking shape at Tauranga airport are expected to be ready for their new tenants in June.
Worth close to $2 million, the hangars are being built by Tauranga companies Letts Buildings and Steel Sheds R Us.

'We've got two separate companies we run side-by-side,” says the sales manager for both companies, Chuck Wingfield.
'We are actually using both companies because some is Letts expertise and some Steel Sheds R Us Tauranga expertise. Letts does more timber construction and structural steel, where Steel Sheds R Us Tauranga do more roll formed steel – light weight steel.
'So we are using the combination and that's one of the reasons we can get these jobs - we have got two separate companies that do different things and quite often we can combine them together, which is quite handy.”
Each hangar is being built to each individual owner's requirements.
'We are building them all to different stages,” says Chuck.
'Some they are going to fit out themselves, others we are putting offices in, little accommodations and things like that. So they are all a little bit different.
'They are big good sized buildings, and you can just adjust them inside to fit whatever the people want.”
The nine hangar block is 180 metres long, the hangars are all 20 metres wide, and 25 metres deep with concrete floors and a concrete panel wall separating each building.
'We've been pouring those and getting cranes down to stand those up, and its all coming together now,” says Chuck.
