Car park closure at hospital

People visiting Tauranga Hospital are being urged to use the Clarke Street car park.

From Monday, January 11, one section of the Tauranga Hospital Cameron Road car park will be closed for a week.

A section of the Tauranga Hospital car park will be closed from Monday morning.

'The area will be coned off from late Sunday evening and will re-open on Monday, January 18,” says a Bay of Plenty DHB CEO Phil Cammish.

'Due to the pressure on the Cameron Road carpark, people are urged to make the Clarke Street car park, their car park of first choice when coming to Tauranga Hospital.”

Phil wants patients and visitors to try Clarke Street first rather than driving round and round the Cameron Road car park.

'There is a lift which connects the car park to the hospital and the Clarke Street car park can be accessed from either 17th or 20th Avenues.”

There are always empty spaces, so is a good first choice for patients and visitors, says Phil.

Its fine to encourage parking down below, what about people who have limited mobility. Try making and keeping hospital appointments when your mobility is severely, compromised. parking down below is not an option. The main entrance is on the Cameron road level.Try finding a wheel chair and helper down at the lower level car park????There should be parking up top for those that need it.

Empty spaces????

You should send out a " memorandum", asking all staff to use public transport for that week, maybe then patients and visitors will be able to find a park, nah that will never work, first in first served is the only "mantra" to hell with anyone else!!!!

Get facts right

Staff aren't allowed to park in Clarke St carpak or they get towed. Maybe Phil could come and direct people where to park as he obviously knows of some secret parks. Can't put multi level carpal on Clarke St due to buried asbestos, and hospital chose not to build on Cameron Rd when they had the opportunity .

The lower level is unusable to many disabled due to the poor design, so we have to park up top. Why is so much top level parking still devoted to the abled-bodied? Too many over paid chiefs and not enough indians in the planning and consulting department for these facilities.

Get With it.

There is never parking down below and if there was I'd struggle to get up the top with my bad back, have problems walking to far.Seems to me there are a lot of car parks taken up the top early .Are they the chiefs???Get it to gether Mr C.E.O

park in Clark Street if they are going to be there all day?? Are they all to precious to use the lift? They get to park all but in the front door where people who come and go get to drive aimlessly all around the hospital looking for somewhere to stop.

always an excuse

totally unacceptable why not park the hospital car fleet at the bottom and allow public to park up top. Maybe Phil should park his car there too as well as all the other clerical staff who get to work and park their cars. Very noticeable when the workers on the floor go home. They are on their feet all day and have to park the further most away and the car park is empty at 1530 to 1630

I guess its been a while since any of the commentators here have been to the hospital. Staff are now not aloud to park in the Clarke street park any more since a new staff park was opened across the road. and why is everyone in this town needing to park right outside the front door the walk will do some of you good. And the car park is only closed 1 week i am sure you will all survive.
