Hot competition in drifting champs

Round 2 of the D1NZ National Drifting Championships is heating up this afternoon with some fierce competition taking to the track.

ASB Baypark Stadium is hosting the two day event. Practice and qualifying rounds were scheduled to take place yesterday, but heavy rain saw that postponed to earlier this morning.

This afternoon see the main competition hit first gear.

D1NZ media manager Kenny Ruddell says all the drivers and their crews are pumped.

'It's always such a great atmosphere in Tauranga and there's always a huge interest as the last two years we've sold out,” says Kenny.

'All the drivers are really excited, and by bringing the round forward to January there also a great summer vibe to the event.”

Taking to Baypark circuit will be a number of Tauranga drivers including Cole Armstrong, Drew Donovan, Adam Davies, Dave Steedman, Calvin Clark and top female drifter Jodie Verhulst. Daniel Woolhouse from Whangarei.

The event will also have a strong international flavour to it too with top Australian drifter Michael Prosenik and American superstar drifter Ryan Tuerck competing.

How that gets passed the environmental crowd? Must be awesome for air quality? Oh well, whatever floats your boat I guess?


Ab issue when an uninvited guest

Just as with an open fire in the back yard, in the paddock, it becomes an issue when the smoke created becomes an uninvited, unappreciated guest of a neighbour. In the case of Baypark the neighbours are distant enough for the smoke to disperse.
