Mount Maunganui based company Zespri is assessing what impact the devastation in Japan could have on the company's export earnings.
In the 2009/2010 season, Zespri earned $370 million in sales from the Japanese market.
The market accounts for 30 per cent of Zespri's total sales value.
'It's still too early to establish any impact on Zespri's 2011 exports to Japan, but this will be assessed over the coming weeks,” says Zespri communications manager Melanie Palmer.
There are 17 Zespri staff based in Tokyo, but all are confirmed safe and well.
'We are giving our Japan based staff space to work through the immediate priorities, so we won't be putting any pressure on them this week in terms of business continuity.
'Tokyo is still experiencing strong aftershocks and there continue to be power outages and transport stoppages, so we're operating with a skeleton crew in the office this week.”

With thousands dead and nuclear radiation floating towards Tokyo, I don't they will be thinking about an ugly little fruit like the Kiwifruit.
