Hell Pizza is attempting to raise $200,000-300,000 for Christchurch earthquake relief causes by giving all money spent at the stores nationwide today away.
The two Tauranga pizza franchises, at Fashion Island in Papamoa and in Bethlehem, are participating in the fundraising effort, with owners Ryan and Shawn Elliott excited to be a part of the cause, which Shawn says is going well since the day's opening at 11.30am.
Ryan and Shawn Elliott are hoping people will enjoy some pizza for dinner, with all proceeds from its sale today going to the relief effort in Christchurch.
'We have had a couple of big orders from businesses in the area,” says Shawn, who notes they have also contributed by offering advertising space with flyers in windows.
The fundraising effort is also being supported by other elements of the business, with Coca Cola donating the drinks sold on the day.
For the Papamoa franchise, the land lord is also giving the store a ‘day-off' rent and the staff there are going without pay for the day, with their wages all being donated.
'The main thanks is to the staff, they have taken it on straight away,” says Shawn.
The money raised at each franchise around the country is being collected at the Hell Pizza national office from where it will be dispersed to the relief effort.
Hell Pizza is open until 10pm.
