New greens run quick in croquet

The new Mount Greens complex is receiving the ‘thumbs up' from croquet players after the Croquet Mount Maunganui club completed its annual Association Tournament.

With excellent weather and good entries from as far afield as Auckland and New Plymouth, club spokesperson Marion Atack says the greens found favour with all players.

She says they are running fast and some took a bit of time to adjust, but players are looking forward to playing on the new greens again.

The doubles event in section one was won by Ray and Olga Puckett from Pt Chevalier. Runners-up were Gail Bruce and Zylette Shepherd from Whakatane.

Section two doubles were won by Hilary Hay and Rita Knegt of Mount Maunganui, with runners- up Judy and Ron Matthews from Katikati.

Singles section A was won by Allister McGregor from Rotorua, with runner-up Red Anderson from Katikati.

Singles section B was won by Margaret Iles from Mount Maunganui, with runner-up Rita Knegt from Mount Maunganui.
