The ASB Arena is about to increase its netted court offering, with work under way to create an additional two.
The new courts are part of what will be called the Bay Active Indoor Sports Pavilion – the pavilion is sited adjacent to the arena, alongside another occupied by Paintball.
Work has begun on two additional courts at ASB Arena.
The netted courts will be ready for indoor netball, football, cricket, bumperball, hockey and dodgeball action in May.
Bay Venues programmes manager Robyn King says the courts will enable more sports leagues to be accommodated.
The transformation of the pavilion, which is currently taking place, involves establishing not only the netted courts with their turf floors, but also a reception area, toilets and changing room facilities, and a food and beverage outlet.
'The courts will boost Bay Venues' ability to accommodate teams we haven't been able to,” Robyn says.
'Bumper Ball, and dodgeball, for example, are things we haven't been able to accommodate as much as we would have liked to. Morning netball for mums, which we already offer in Tauranga at QEYC, will also be able to be played at the ASB Arena when the new courts are completed,” she says.
The courts will include netted rooves that can be played off.
The new courts will bring the total number of courts at ASB Arena up to 11. Bay Venues also operates courts at QEYC (3), Mt Sports Centre (1), Aquinas Action Centre (1) and Merivale Action Centre (1).
