Big turnover for picnic

Papa Moa's Teddy Bear picnic went off without a hitch this morning. In fact the rain only came when the bear were already tugged into their beds.

Organiser Kate Percy estimate 300 people turned up in Papamoa Plaza for the event. It was the second time the picnic was held.

'About 70 percent of the kids that came had a teddy bear, or cat, or dog, or anything else under the sun in term of a cuddly toy, with them, she says.

Lasting only two hours, the families poured in to enjoy balloon magic, face painting and learn useful stuff from Plunket and the cancer society. The first 50 kids to arrive got a free blackboard to take home.
