Arataki eyes up Rangiuru

Former Baywide contender division one Arataki continues its journey to return to Baywide Rugby when the team travels to Te Puke in the Seeka KI Western BOP Championship today.

While Arataki sat on the sidelines in the first half of last season, they resumed their rugby journey in the second round of the Western BOP competition last year.

Success came in the Western BOP division two when they defeated Te Puna in a real arm wrestle in the final – coming from behind to win 20-17.

On Saturday, they could face a strong challenge from Rangiuru, who despatched Te Puke Sports last weekend.

Western BOP competition heavyweight Mount Maunganui has the chance to bounce back from a narrow defeat by Matakana Island last weekend when the visit Greerton Park to play Greerton Marist.

However, Greerton just went down 11-9 to former Western BOP titleholders Tauranga Sports.

Tauranga Sports could have receive a real challenge from Katikati when they travel to Moore Park. Last week the Katikati seconds impressed in defeating Judea 26-8 at Judea headquarters.

Papamoa opens its Western BOP campaign when they play Eastern Districts at Gordon Spratt Reserve.

With both sides vying for a Baywide division two berth later in the season, a game of attrition is likely to take place.

Both Te Puke Sports and Judea will be looking to rebound from a loss apiece when they meet at Murray Salt Stadium.
