Mount Maunganui dawn service

Their heads bow and eyes close in a minute of silence to remember brave soldiers involved in conflict.

A red poppy, symbolising war remembrance, is pinned to their shirts. As the sun rises, the Harvards fly past in a salute to the fallen and the ‘Last Post' sounds on the bugle.

It's a familiar sight each year to commemorate Anzac Day and honour the soldiers who fought at Gallipoli 101 years ago.

Today, the day also honours servicemen and women who contributed to the wars and conflicts around the world since WWI.

These pictures below are from this morning's dawn service at Mount Maunganui, Photos: Bruce Barnard.
