A week of fine weather

Shorter days, cooler nights and fine autumn days are on the cards for the region this week.

The front that affected the country over the weekend has now moved north, leaving behind it a cool southwesterly flow.

The week is looking mostly fine.

MetService meteorologist Hannah Moes says today is looking fine, with another ridge of high pressure on its way.

Hannah says autumn tends to be a more settled season but there had been a good run of fine weather during recent weeks.

'It is slightly unusual to have such a long period of settled weather at this time of the year but it's not unheard of.”

She expects a few isolated showers from Waikato northward later in the day, along with a scattering on the west coast of the South Island.

By Wednesday the ridge is well established over the country, and persists into Thursday bringing fine, settled weather for most places.

On Friday a front spreads rain over the far south, but its progress north is stunted by the ridge.
