The 47-year-old was driver of the car and died at the scene, while two passengers, which included a 12-year-old girl, were airlifted to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition by the Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Road Policing Manager Inspector Freda Grace says the serious crash unit was called to the scene and investigations are continuing.
'Police are calling for witnesses who may have seen both vehicles on SH27 at 6am, in particular they are asking for the driver of a white utility, who was following the truck at this time, to come forward.”
The truck driver also suffered injuries and transported to Waikato Hospital via ambulance.

Truck slaughter continues

When are we as NZ'ers going to admit that we have an ultra-serious problem in this country with out-of-control trucks maiming and killing defenseless drivers and passengers? How many more innocent people must die before the appropriate measures are taken to rein-in these deadly behemoths? Whether the root cause is exceeding the 13 hour driving limit, exceeding the speed limit, ignoring double lines, taking uppers, etc., we must stop pretending this grave problem does not exist.

Settle down already..A LARGE proportion of accidents that include trucks (although not in this case) are actually caused by the other vehicle. NZ drivers are some of the worst I've come across..car drivers ESPECIALLY..no point singling out just truck drivers.

The answer is simple. To stop the slaughter on the roads car drivers like yourself need to be banned. FACT cars cause the most fatal accidents on New Zealands roads. When is Annesia going to stop pretending this promblem does not exist?

Amnesia professes to know the answer to just about every topic on Sunlive. Admirable. If you know so much put some interventions in place to stop some of these things....either that or you lead a mundane existence and have nothing better to do with your time.

NZ trucks are involved in more deadly collisions than in six other OECD countries. In NZ 5.5 people die in collisions involving trucks for every 100 million kilometres of driving. In second position is France at 4.4 deaths, Australia at 2.5, Germany at 2.2, Canada at 2.1, Britain at 1.8 and the US at 1.7. Truck drivers were found culpable in approx. a third of these fatal collisions. (Source: NZ Land Transport Safety Authority)

NZ cars cause more deaths in NZ than trucks do. I dont even need to look up any stats for that as it is common knowledge. Are you going to admit that trucks cause less deaths than cars do in NZ. Bet you dont have the balls too...
