Mount Maunganui on the move

While Matakana Island remains at the top of the Seeka KI Western BOP Rugby competition leader board, Mount Maunganui surged up several places into second when they defeated Papamoa on Good Friday.

In a game where both sides earned bonus points for posting four tries apiece, Mount Maunganui cut loose in the second spell to win 62-24.

On Saturday afternoon, Matakana Island came to town to meet Tauranga Sports.

With its undefeated record on the line, the island team had to really battle for victory.

The final score line of 16-6 to Matakana Island provided evidence of a competitive contest.

Not only did Matakana Island retain the Hardy Rosebowl (Western BOP Challenge trophy) – but they also registered their first win over Tauranga Sports in the Western BOP competition.

On Thursday evening, Te Puke Sports played Greerton Marist under lights at Murray Salt Stadium.

A 40-3 victory to Te Puke suggested that the local side could be an outside chance to make the top four.

Eastern Districts was involved in a real battle with Judea at the Paengaroa Domain.

In a match where the advantage changed several times, Judea eked out a 24-22 victory.
