Matakana Island stays top

Matakana Island remains at the top of the Seeka KI Western BOP competition leader board after a hard fought win against Papamoa on Saturday.

With both the Hardy Rosebowl (Western BOP Challenge trophy) and the team's unbeaten record at stake, there was plenty of pride and passion on the line for the island side.

While Matakana Island ran in four tries to pick up an additional bonus point, Papamoa had plenty of fight before the home side took out the match 24-5.

Mount Maunganui and Arataki, which were second-equal on the competition standings cemented their positions with solid victories.

The deadlock between the two sides from the Mount Maunganui peninsular will be broken next weekend when the two championship contenders meet at Blake Park.

At Murray Salt Stadium, Mount Maunganui proved too strong for Te Puke Sports to emerge with a 48-5 victory, while Arataki delighted their home crowd supporters with a 36-7 win over Greerton Marist.

Judea continued their resurgence after a slow start to the season to defeat Rangiuru 41-19 in an entertaining encounter at Maharaia Winiata Park.

Katikati was another side to continue its good run of form, defeating Eastern Districts before a good-sized crowd at Moore Park in Katikati.

While the Katikati victory was no great surprise, the emphatic margin of win thrilled the home team supporters.
